Infamous character builds and concepts notwithstanding, it is sometimes a surprise that some of the craziest concepts actually get accepted by GMs – who are either too nice, too lenient, or too apathetic to disallow them to a campaign.  But here are five character concepts pitched in our gaming group that got rejected outright.  You judge if they deserved to be so.  Here goes a few notables from our gaming group…

1.  Gwendolyn Toothfairy - Level 1 Pixie.  Dungeon and Dragons 3.5:  Forgotten Realms. First pitched by Dante, one of our quirkier players.  He had pitched two, actually, one was Helga the Barbarian Woman, and the other was Gwendolyn Toothfairy.  Upon mentioning the name of the latter, the GM rejected it.  I can only imagine a dungeon crawling adventure where one of the players were actually a self confessed toothfairy…  It got Rejected Outright. And while the GM would have allowed this concept in any other situation, it was the sole fact that the player had danced, prancied around, and did a Ballerina twirl while saying the concept that it got a resounding “NO.”

2. Connor CruiseScion/god game. Kalindrel had concepted this character as the son of a scientology god for Mawf’s game, Tom Cruise, and possibly the savior of mankind from the rise of machines and Terminators.  Instantly thrown off by GM Mawf for good reason.  Nuff said.  It got Rejected Outright. (In case anyone’s wondering, Connor Cruise is a real person, and is truly the real son of Tom Cruise. )

3. Exalted DawgExalted v1.  Solar Campaign. In Mawf’s Exalted game, I had pitched the idea of playing a kid’s guardian dog (heroic mortal dog ftw!) who would later awaken as a solar.  The inspiration of the concept was, of course, Talking dog movies (eg 101 Dalmatians, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Cats and Dogs) where the dog can talk, converse, and is filled with the potential for heroism whenever his kid owner got into trouble.   It got Rejected Outright. Ironically, I played a much crazier character in the game proper  – the Kamina/Indy Jones hybrid who’s romantically in love with his mecha robot.

4. Infantile Magical Cleric of ErythnulLevel 1 Human Cleric. DND 3.5. Homebrew. I pitched it initally to Balthazar’s game, as I wanted to play a crawling baby girl saying “dada” who was also a Chosen Cleric of Erythnul, the god of murder.  Evil Magical Babies of Doom are always creepy in my eyes.  Alas, it was Rejected Outright. He, however, agreed that he’d allow it if I added 10 years to the character’s age.  (Which kinda defeated the purpose, but I was forced to agree.  After all, I can’t imagine a babygirl who can Rebuke Undead at will, wielding a rattle-mace,  and in full plate hello kitty armor – without actually chuckling.  I may have to try the concept in a non-DND system.  nMage possibly, or worse… Promethean!)

5.  Mouse the Ascension. RPG Campaign. Mage the Awakening. This last one differs because this time, it’s not the GM who rejects it, but the players.  Concepted as the Second Age of Mousedom, when a band of Mundane Mice start gaining magical powers that finally allow them to fight their feline and ratkin oppressors.  Inspirations was Disney’s Great Mouse Detective and Rescuers Down Under.  Its tag line was “Think small, Dream big!”  It was Rejected OutrightWhile I, personally think its an awesome campaign concept, no one seemed to agree with me.  I’m still keeping this in my GM box until I find players willing to play it.  Sigh.
